Or ask someone who is more competent, since I sure as hell ain't. If you go over the blue with a smaller eraser and then over the whole mess with a bigger one, it looks really nice and smooth.Įxperiment and screw around with these things.
Make the layer about 50-60% transparent and go to town with your eraser, taking out all but the shadows. A good and quick shading techinque involves laying down a layer above the colors but below the inks, and then covering your figure with dark blue. It means I have to use more layers and clean up afterwards with the eraser tool, but meh, it works for me. When I color I just use the brush tool turned up to 'fat' in size and have at it, modifying the color a little and blending it in with the smudge tool.

Inking is a gigantic bitch to get used to in OC and I didn't figure out how to do it without making it look like crap for a long time. I also mess with the pressure sensitivity (the little graph thing) a bit from time to time to get exactly what I need. A buddy of mine uses colored linework from time to time and it looks good, but I can't get it to work. I also tend to use a light color with good contrast, like red or blue.įor inking, I use the pencil tool with 2-3 pixels in width (depending on how I want the linework to look), 0% minimum size, no transparency, and black as a color, of course. Ok, for sketching, I use the pencil tool with 1.5-2 pixels in width, with a 0% minimum size, transparency enabled. I use that 1.1 version too, since 99% of my OC use is online.
I will admit that I feel much more comfortable using real media and that OC is just a curiosity for me. I don't use it very often, but occationally I stumble on making things look good. My first test with a tablet was on artwork CBee let me use of his QBee lineart.Īh, no biggie. I generally paint an entire area with a flat color, and turn opacity off, either I can paint it using the pen/ink tool, or the watercolor tool, and adjust the sliders so it doesn't get effected by the "canvas" When I ink I turn it off, and may change the pen size (OC sadly lacks shape dynamics in the earlier versions, and I'm more of an organic inker, than a technical one, I like my lines going thick to thin) I found looking through the entire thread very interesting because you can actually see a lot of people using different techniques to achieve an effect.Īs for me, when I use pencils/inks the top tool, I may start off with a different color and leave the opacity setting on. Not Work Safe for BEWBS: (but one of my favorite event files) If you watch the event files, look at how they're messing with the brushes as the event plays (Use event with weight to slow it down) Some good things to watch are event files, I found quite a few that had some interesting techniques, most significantly from Orcatraz What it doesn't cover is something important about the watercolor tool but you can find this information here: This isn't a common problem though so most of you won't even notice anything.Ģ2-03-2007 :: Added support for the openCanvas 2.xx series, this is however in *BETA* until I have confirmation wether it really works or not (I still don't have a working 2.xx copy of openCanvas).I found this helpful for understanding Open Canvas' settings.
This will remove all the undo states from the memory.

In any case, you can solve this by going to Edit -> Release memory. Japanese cartoonists and illustrators are using openCanvasopenCanvas is a paint/drawing software program from Japan, it is used worldwide and received many software awards. If you notice alot of slowdowns in oC it might be because oC has stored too many undo states into your memory (in other words, your computer needs more RAM). Insert the amount of undoes you want to have into the 'Set to:' inputbox. This program allows to to freely edit the amount of undoes you have in openCanvas.ĭownload: Click 'Download' to the left of the screen.Ģ. !!! -PaperfeedĪ brand new release! Due to my previous version being way too inefficient and simply just a stupid method to get the job done.
